Astronomy Olympiad Workshop

Middle section students of SIS, accompanied by supervisor Mrs. Soumya Mathew, attended the Astronomy Olympiad workshop at Dark Al-Taqweem Al Qatari, led by Astronomer Mr. Hani Dale. The workshop was organised as part of the Astronomy Olympiad projects for schools 2024.The session provided valuable insights into telescope usage for observing solar surface sunspots and calculating Doha’s latitude relative to the equator using the radiant method. The training outlined three project phases: Doha’s latitude calculation, precise sunspot capture via telescopic observations, and disseminating findings to an audience of 200 students. A group of five students, guided by Mrs. Soumya Mathew, will undertake these projects, fostering a deepened understanding of celestial navigation techniques.
