April 25, 2026:
“Little Actions, Big Impact on Children”
A training session on child safeguarding and safety was conducted by the School Counsellor Ms. Faheema Mustafa under the guidance of the Operational Manager Mr. Abdul Hameed, for the support staff with the objective of enhancing their awareness and responsibility for ensuring a safe and secure school environment for children. The session emphasized how small, mindful actions by support staff can have a significant impact on the well-being of students.
The session began with an engaging ice-breaker activity, where participants were asked to identify appropriate and inappropriate behaviors in common school situations. For example, “using a mobile phone while children are playing” was identified as unsafe behavior, while “actively watching children during recess” was recognized as a responsible action. This helped participants understand the importance of vigilance in their daily duties.
The core focus of the session was on child safety practices. Staff were trained to always supervise children, avoid leaving them unattended, and remain particularly alert in sensitive areas such as toilets, corridors, and playgrounds. Special emphasis was placed on toilet-time care, ensuring privacy along with safety, and strictly avoiding the use of mobile phones during duty hours.
The importance of being active and alert during recess and movement time was highlighted. Staff were encouraged to move around, observe children closely, and proactively prevent accidents, conflicts, or unsafe situations. Additionally, guidance was provided on maintaining positive communication, using kind and calm language, as children are sensitive and can easily feel frightened by harsh tones.
The session also covered appropriate responses when a child has an accident, stressing the need for immediate attention, calm handling, and informing the concerned authorities. The value of teamwork and professional behavior was reinforced, along with the importance of not disturbing teachers during instructional time unless necessary.
A brief psychological insight was shared to help staff understand children’s emotional needs and how their behavior can influence a child’s sense of safety and comfort. The session concluded with a set of Golden Rules summarizing key takeaways and reinforcing accountability.
Overall, the session was interactive and informative, equipping support staff with practical strategies to contribute effectively to child safeguarding. The training reinforced the message that every staff member plays a vital role in creating a safe and nurturing school environment.
