Exceptional Performance at Awsaj Academy

On May 20, 2024, 14 students of grade 4 and 5 from Shantiniketan Indian School visited Awsaj Academy to attend a special performance by children with special needs. The play, titled The Candy Man, was directed by Ms. Nancy, an experienced director who has extensively trained in utilizing performing arts as a developmental tool for children.

Earlier to this day, on May 7, 2024, Mrs. Chandrima Guha Roy and Mrs. Carol Fernandez attended Ms. Nancy’s training sessions where she demonstrated how performing arts can significantly aid in the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children, particularly those with physical and intellectual challenges. Her approach emphasized building confidence, enhancing communication skills, and fostering creativity.

The teachers were awarded a golden ticket during the workshop symbolizing recognition of the exceptional effort and talent displayed by the young performers. This gesture underscored the importance of encouragement and positive reinforcement in the growth and development of children.

The play featured a group of talented young actors who, despite their physical challenges, performed with remarkable enthusiasm and poise. The experience was both eye-opening and inspiring, showcasing how these children could overcome their fears and express themselves vividly on stage.

Overall, the visit to Awsaj Academy was a profoundly enriching experience. Our students not only learned about the capabilities of children with special needs but also gained insight into the transformative power of the arts. The event highlighted the significance of inclusivity and the potential within every child to shine when given the right support and opportunities.
