Fun with Sounds

“Kids step forward phonetically to make English language easier & interesting”

With an objective to sharpen the phonic skills of the beginning readers SIS KG Wing conducted the activity, ‘Fun with Sounds’ with great zeal and enthusiasm.

The prime focus was to help the beginners to understand how the letters are linked to sounds and to enable the children to form letter-sound correspondences and spelling patterns and to help them learn how to apply this knowledge in their reading.

There was a frenzy of activity as the students were engaged in lively and meaningful phonic integrated games like I Spy type games and matching objects with the same sound to focus on the initial sound of words. Activities like rhyming stories, rhyming bingo, clapping out the syllables in words and the odd one out helped in developing children’s appreciation of rhythm and rhyme in speech.

An explicit comprehensive and structured approach was adopted by the teacher using phonics chart, spelling rules to help the children read quickly and skillfully.

Usage of Tabs & Ipad made the class rooms vibrant, dynamic and zestful. The tiny tots were motivated to noodle around some effective website to strengthen and reinforce their reading skills.

The hallmark of systematic phonics approach to blend the sounds to form words had a positive and significant effect on the kindergartners which would go a long way to create enthusiastic readers and lead to the development of literacy.
