Mahatma Gandhi or more lovingly known as Bapu by all Indians is internationally acknowledged for his doctrine of non-violence that led India to its glorious freedom. 2nd October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. To revere this day, the Students of Shantiniketan Indian School, Qatar held a Special Assembly to commemorate the Mahatma’s life and teachings. A special speech with Gandhian quotes and messages brought the gathering to understand more about this iconic leader. The day is also commemorated with an awareness campaign “Promise to Protect A Tobacco Free Future”. Teachers and students participated in this campaign programme.
The Kindergarten students performed The Legends of India and Collage Making Competition. Head Teacher Mrs. Mehjabeen motivated the students to imbibe the qualities of simple living and high values. An Essay Competition on the Topic “The relevance of Gandhian Thought in the present World” was also conducted followed by a Quiz session by the Middle and Secondary section. A cleanliness drive to reminisce Gandhi’s philosophy on this occasion was conducted by Scouts and Guides of SIS. Bulletin Board competition was also conducted by the Arts Department. Mrs Chandrima of the Arts Department motivated and guided the students and gave instructions and rules to be followed.
The programmes were made colorful by the Students Council Members of Shantiniketan Indian School. Principal, Vice Principal and Head Teachers appreciated all students and teachers for making the event a success.
