December 3, 2025:
The Afternoon Shift of Shantiniketan Indian School observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December through a series of meaningful activities designed to foster empathy, awareness, and respect for individuals with diverse abilities.
The day began with an assembly for KG to Grade 2, presented by the students of Grade 1 E2, highlighting the importance of understanding and supporting persons with disabilities. The children also reflected on inspiring personalities with disabilities whose determination and achievements have motivated the world. Students of Grades 3 to 5 conducted a similar assembly, with active participation from Grade 4C under the guidance of their class teacher.
For Grades 3 to 9, an engaging activity titled “Walk in My Shoes” was conducted, offering students hands-on experiences to understand the challenges faced by people with disabilities. They participated in tasks such as walking blindfolded with a partner’s support, communicating silently through gestures or writing, and performing simple tasks using only one hand. These simulations helped students develop deeper empathy and a greater appreciation for the everyday struggles others navigate with courage.
Students of Grades 6 to 9 also attended an inspiring guest talk by Ms. Nathania, a 13-year-old motivational speaker who has overcome early challenges, including cerebral palsy, to achieve national acclaim. Her remarkable accomplishments—ranging from major speech contest victories to recognition in the India Book of Records—encouraged students to value resilience, compassion, and inclusivity. The session was honoured by the presence of School President Mr. Rasheed Ahmed, Senior Headmaster Mr. Rafeeq Ahmed, and Foundational Section Coordinator Ms. Sajina Cholayil, all of whom addressed the gathering with insightful and motivating remarks. The programmes were thoughtfully planned and smoothly coordinated by Activity Coordinators Ms. Mashitha and Ms. Liji Abdulla.
The day’s events successfully reinforced the message that every individual deserves understanding, respect, and equal opportunities, inspiring students to embrace inclusivity in their daily lives.
