Makeover Phase 7 Enriches SIS Teachers

Two-Day Workshop – Makeover Phase 7, was organised by Shantiniketan Indian School at its campus on 27th and 28th January, 2016. The entire teaching faculty of SIS attended the two-day workshop with great positive energy and enthusiasm. The workshop focused on empowering and strategic development of teachers in the role of facilitators to support knowledge sharing, collaboration, skill development and giving sense to their teaching experience.

Day one began with a lively and enlightening session by the Principal, Dr. Subhash Nair. He enlivened the spirit of the attendants with his Module “Giving sense to your teaching experience.” He interacted with the teachers on the importance of Values and the three G’s – Genuine, Generous and Genuine, the three attributes that can help to make teaching more sensible.

Mr. Syam Krishna, Mrs. Shobi & Mrs. Bilkis gave hands on training to all teachers working on their laptops to enhance their ICT Skills. They were enriched with some advance operations of MS Word and Excel. Teachers also prepared some attractive and engaging PowerPoint Presentations that will help them to create their teaching tool to make their class more effective.

Teachers were later introduced to the more advanced features of the multimedia teaching Module that by Mr. Jijo that would help them to develop a rich interactive learning material in the -earning process.

The Administrator, Mr. Salam and his team introduced some advanced features of the School Information and Management System that could help teachers in managing student’s data and communication within the organization and with parents.

Day 2 began with highly engaging and enjoyable Activity in which all the teachers were involved. Mrs. Vasavi (HOD English), Mr. Shakir Hussain (HOD Social Science), Mr. Tono Fernandez; and Mr. Shamsudheen (HOD Mathematics) conducted an Inter-Disciplinary Activity to encourage teachers to save on time in doing their Formative Activities. This further demonstrated how a knowledge in one discipline can be transferred to other which will help in the holistic development of children.

Later in the day it was all activities as the Department Heads of Languages – Mr. Mudassir Kirmani (Arabic), Mrs. Shirley (Hindi) and Mr. Nishanth (Malayalam) also joined to demonstrate to their department teachers how to conduct Individual and Group Activities in the Formative Assessments. There were Roleplays, Debate, Poster-making and loads of other activities that reinvigorated the spirits of the teachers and saw them indulged in inclusive and experiential learning.

Makeover Phase 7 was a resounding success that saw the active participation of more than 130 teachers that will definitely add greater sense to their teaching in the long run and help generate and mould responsible global citizens.

Mr. Shihabudeen Pullath, Vice Principal Academics, concluded the session with his Vote of Thanks. He showered special praise on the exemplary dedication of  Mr. Dudley O’Connor – Vice Principal CBSE-I and also the Professional Staff Development Co-ordinator for his flawless planning and innovative conceptualization of the workshop. He also extended his sincere thanks to all the resource Person for transferring their knowledge and expertise to the strong and highly dedicated teaching faculty of SIS.
