Observance of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack

September 9, 2025:

Slogan: “Books, Not Battles – Safe Schools for a Better Tomorrow!”

Shantiniketan Indian School, Qatar, observed the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on 9th September 2025 through a variety of age-appropriate activities across all grade levels. The event highlighted the school’s strong commitment to promoting peace, safety, and the right to education for every child.
Education is a powerful tool for building peaceful, sustainable societies. However, in many conflict-affected regions, schools, students, and teachers are frequently targeted—disrupting learning and endangering futures. In response, the school conducted a full-day programme to raise awareness and instill values of peace and empathy among students.

The Foundational Section under the guidance of Academic Supervisor Ms. Mehjabeen Hasan, participated in activities such as storytelling, art, music, and group discussions focusing on peace, kindness, and unity. Children enthusiastically created drawings and shared ideas about how schools can be safe and happy spaces. These activities helped students understand the importance of a peaceful learning environment.

The Preparatory section led by Academic Supervisor Mr. Wayne Rodrigues and Activity Coordinator Ms. Nazia Tahseen, students engaged in interactive, awareness-building activities like the safe school pledge, awareness walk holding placards and posters and slogans to promote school safety. These activities empowered students to voice their support for safe education globally.

The senior section began with an awareness speech via the School Radio, followed by a screening of UNICEF’s short film “Back to School.” A classroom discussion helped students reflect on the challenges children face in conflict zones. Students performed a role-play dramatizing the lives of students in war-affected areas. Their performance left a strong impact, emphasizing that education must never be a target.

The day promoted empathy, responsibility, and global awareness among students. Through creative expression, pledges, discussions, and performances, the school reinforced the message that every child deserves a safe space to learn.
