School’s Planetarium Day is an educational event that immerses students in the wonders of astronomy and space. It often involves presentations, interactive exhibits, and potentially a planetarium show, all aimed at sparking curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of the universe. In support of the same, Shantiniketan Indian School, Doha organized Planetarium Day for learners of Kindergarten to Grade VI in MPH.
Experienced instructors deliver captivating presentations that explore various aspects of astronomy, such as the solar system, galaxies, and the life cycle of stars. The goal is to spark a love for science and astronomy in students, encouraging them to explore these fields further.
Upon entering the dome, students were welcomed into a darkened environment resembling the night sky. There, they were made to sit comfortably. The dome was the screen of the theater. The show began with a journey through the solar system, featuring planets, moons, and the sun. Through stunning visuals and a clear, engaging narration, students learned about the order of planets, their unique features, and their orbits around the sun.
Highlights of the show included:
- Watching the phases of the Moon
- Learning about constellations and their stories
- Observing day and night cycles
- Understanding eclipses and space travel
Students were fascinated by the 360-degree projection and felt as if they were really traveling through space. The dome made the experience interactive and memorable, encouraging curiosity and questions. There are many posters on the moon, planets etc.
