The novel Covid-19 has confined the school students to their homes keeping them away from School and friends. However, the innovative nature of Shantiniketan Indian School has productively kept their students engaged and active at home through effective Remote Teaching.
SIS organized an online virtual Parents’ Conference – 2020 which was attended by over 1500 parents. Remote Virtual Conferences were organized section-wise to facilitate maximum participation. During the Conference, parents were oriented with all the digital tools that are being used to make teaching learning highly engaging, interactive and effective. The teachers lucidly presented GSuite Platforms tool like Google classroom, Google meet, and the schools own e-learning portal that are being used during the remote learning sessions. The parents were also given a clear idea about the Assessment Patterns that would be followed at all levels in the Academic Year 2020 – 2021. They were also apprised with key points essential for maintaining Academic Discipline in order to maximize the performance of their wards.
Parents shared their responsibilities of providing an appropriate, noise-free, and conducive environment at home to maximize the learning results during these remote sessions. They also urged the school to maintain a very clear communication channel and to keep them updated through parent’s portal and the WhatsApp group so that they can engage more productively with children in their learning process. They highly appreciated the efforts of the teachers and the initiatives of the school management for developing a very systematic and well-organized remote learning classes for children from Grade KG to XII.
Principal of SIS – Dr. Subhash B. Nair brought out various factors that have a significant impact on our approach towards virtual learning. He also appreciated the far-sightedness of the school management in providing the e-Learning Portal, way back in 2013, which has become highly significant in the current prevailing situation. He also expressed happiness at the active participation of parents and their support in providing necessary tools at home to make virtual remote learning a reality for their kids.
During these conferences, there were open sessions in which parents raised their concerns related to academics and assessments, which were convincingly cleared by the Vice Principals Mr. Shihabudheen Pullath and Mr. Dudley O’Connor. All administrative issues and queries related to transport and payment of fees were credibly addressed by the administrator of the school – Mr. Abdul Salam.
The innovative and well organized sessions added another feather in the illustrious cap of Shantiniketan Indian School that believes in “uniqueness with excellence.”
