SIS Teachers’ Discussion Forum: Guiding with Respect, Growing with Grace

April 26, 2025:

The SIS Teachers’ Discussion Forum was held successfully with active participation from all departments. The program began with a prayer, national anthems, and a welcome address, followed by an ice-breaking session.

Montessori Philosophy

Mrs. Shafeeah Moidu facilitated an interactive session on Montessori Philosophy for the foundational section teachers. The session aimed to inspire teachers to integrate Montessori methods into their classrooms.
The session focused on blending Montessori’s individualized learning with conventional teaching, such as using Montessori materials alongside traditional lesson plans. Teachers actively discussed challenges, including limited resources and time constraints. The session wrapped up with the Silence Game, a Montessori activity that promotes focus. This left a positive impression on the participants, fostering collaboration and providing practical insights.

Walking in Their Shoes: Understanding and Supporting Students with Learning Disabilities

A professional development workshop titled “Understanding and Identifying Specific Learning Disability (SLD) was conducted by the school counsellor, Mrs. Faheema Mustafa, for the preparatory section teachers. This session marked the first phase of a planned series focused on building teacher capacity to support diverse learners.

The session began with an Entry Task – an Awareness Quiz to assess teachers’ existing knowledge and misconceptions about SLD. This was followed by an Overview Presentation, highlighting the types, early signs, and common myths associated with SLDs such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. Teachers then participated in a Simulation Experience, engaging in activities that helped them empathize with the challenges faced by students with learning disabilities. Practical strategies on common classroom accommodations and modifications were discussed to support inclusive practices.

The workshop was interactive and well-received, setting a strong foundation for future sessions aimed at enhancing teachers’ ability to recognize and address the needs of students with learning differences.

Department-wise discussions

Department-wise discussions were conducted for grades VI to XII from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in designated rooms, led by the respective Heads of the Departments. Each team focused on sharing strategies and planning for future academic progress.
Additional sessions included a safety (fire drill) briefing by the Senior Operations Manager, a leadership session by the Principal, Mr. Rafeeq Rahim and Vice-Principal, Mr. Sujith Kumar, and a closing note of appreciation. The forum fostered collaboration, professional reflection, and reinforced the values of respect and grace in educational leadership.
