SIS welcomes classical language status for Malayalam

The management, staff and students of Shantiniketan Indian School welcomed the central cabinet’s decision to approve ‘classical language status’ for Malayalam, in a function held in its Barwa campus recently.

Inaugurating the function, Mr. Farooq Abdul Rahman, eminent Malayalam film director, appreciated the Union Government for their coveted recognition to the language. He urged the audience to love their mother tongue and respect the other languages. “Language is the mother of all. The terrific fact of the present time is that we live in a world where the children don’t love their mothers and vice versa. No any individual can love his mother tongue if he doesn’t love his mother,” he reminded.

In the keynote address, Dr. Subhash B. Nair, Principal,  appreciated the efforts taken by the Department of Malayalam to host such an event.

The other attractions of the day were a group song praising Malayalam language, a scintillating group dance exhibiting the culture of Kerala, poem recitations and speech which sought everyone’s attention and instilled a spirit of love towards language. Ms. Suhaina, Ms. Abhirami, Sivani Noushad and Aslah Thameem led the team.

Mr. K C Nasir, Head of Malayalam Department, welcomed the gathering and Mr.  Abdulla Kakkodan, Coordinator, CCA, proposed  the vote of thanks. The students were rigorously trained by Mr. Noushad, Mr. Mushin Kurikkal, music teachers, Mr. Noufal Kappad, art teacher, and Mrs. Prajisha, dance teacher.

Other school officials Mr. Shihabudheen Pulath, Mrs.Manju Singh, vice principals, also graced the occasion with their presence.
