World Elders Day Celebration

“ Elders: Our Past, Our Pride, Our Guide.”

World Elders Day, also known as the International Day of Older Persons, is observed on October 1st every year. It serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role senior citizens play in shaping families, communities, and society at large. At Shantiniketan Indian School, we deeply value the importance of instilling respect, gratitude, and compassion in our students — qualities that are best learned through meaningful experiences.
In this spirit, the Foundational Section proudly organized a special program to celebrate and honor the elders in our community. The event aimed to foster intergenerational bonding, create awareness about the challenges faced by the elderly, and instill a sense of responsibility among young learners toward senior citizens.
Children participated enthusiastically by sharing videos expressing their love for their grandparents. They wished them on the occasion and spoke fondly about how they spend their time with them — reading stories, playing games, or simply enjoying their comforting presence. Some students also shared memories of special places they had visited with their grandparents, showcasing the unique bond they share.
The Secondary section organized an Inter-House Bulletin Board Competition for Grade 9 students. The event was coordinated by Ms. Soumya Mathew, Senior Activity Coordinator, and judged by Ms. Payal, HOD of Social Science, and Mr. Hamza, English Teacher.
The competition showcased the creativity and teamwork of the students, with Topaz House securing the first position, Emerald House achieving the second position, and Sapphire House obtaining the third position. The event was successful in promoting awareness, collaboration, and artistic expression among the stud
The World Elders Day celebration at Shantiniketan Indian School was a heartwarming experience, reminding us all of the deep respect and affection children hold for their grandparents and elders. Through storytelling, visual expression, and interaction, students across all sections demonstrated empathy and appreciation for the older generation. As we continue to guide our students in becoming compassionate, responsible global citizens, we remain committed to nurturing values that promote kindness, respect, and gratitude — both within and beyond the classroom. The celebration was not just a tribute to the elderly, but also a lesson in lifelong values and emotional connection.
